The Beacon

A living record of island life—past, present, and ongoing.

Since 1970, The Amherst Island Beacon has told the stories of this place we call home. Through births and farewells, community events and council updates, harvests and storms and laughter, the Beacon has been where we record, reflect, and reach out to one another.

Over the decades, it has evolved—but always with one goal: to hold up a mirror to Amherst Island and show us who we are, together.

What You’ll Find Here

This is the Beacon’s new digital home. You’ll find:

  • Monthly issues of The Beacon, with familiar sections like Neighbourhood Notes, Poetry, Obituaries, and Council Gleanings
  • Dispatches—shorter, standalone pieces published between issues, including reflections, photos, stories, and observations from around the Island
  • An ever-growing archive of island voices, easily searchable and linkable for future generations

We’ve designed this space to be easy to browse, easy to share, and—most importantly—faithful to the heart of the Beacon you’ve always known.
